Robert Rivera Native American New Mexico Hand Painted Gourd   This Is a large hand painted gourd by famous American artist,  Robert Rivera. The painters hallmark symbol is drawn next to his name.   Condition: Excellent,  Colors are good with no flaking or fading.  There is one area on the upper side where the black design has lost some paint due to handling, but the design remains visible .No chips or cracks in the gourd body. The bottom has some "gourd features"  including spicules and the navel.   This was purchased on a western vacation and has been in storage for several decades.  Robert Rivera dated his later painted gourds, so this is an early edition of his work, as indicated in the painters words - an Anasazi design .Shipped anywhere in USA for $10 plus insurance. His story involves gourds of every conceivable shape and size. The designs reflect Rivera's Spanish, Apache and French heritage with heavy emphasis on images from Native American culture.  Recent gourd art involves painted gourds with attached feathers and fabric and beads.   Robert Rivera has taken a simple, organic material and transformed it into an art form that falls somewhere between painting, sculpture and pottery. Rivera has established an international reputation for himself as one of only two well known artists using this medium.   Rivera's personal favorites are the gourds painted with ancient Anasazi designs. He also began to create new designs based on Chinese, Indonesian and Greek art.  Typical prices range from $800 to $1400 for his more elaborate designs.   "The idea that my work is in people's houses all over the place is one of the most satisfying parts of my work," he says. "That moves me so much that they liked something I did well enough to actually buy it and have it in their house. I still can't believe I am so lucky."   "Click for a larger photo "Click for a larger photo "Click for a larger photo "Click for a larger photo "Click for a larger photo "Click for a larger photo "Click for a larger photo Powered by eBay Turbo ListerThe free listing tool.
