Description
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Visit Our eBay Store Home Page: Japanesque AccentsTitle: YASAKA JINGA SHRINE, TOKYO Our Asian / Oriental /Japanese inspired quilted wall hangings are individually hand crafted in the U.S.--not mass produced. We pride ourselves on the quality of our work and the fact that each panel is unique with the choices of coordinating fabrics used to frame each piece. 80% of ALL our fabrics come from Japan. Our wall hangings bring a unique change from the usual Japanese scroll, poster or art work. For followers of feng shui, serene scenes bring good chi to one’s home. This Large Size Wall Hanging measures 39 1/2 inches wide by 42 1/2 inches long including tabs. 100% polyester or cotton batting used. Description: Design in shades of burnt orange, gray, light blue, salmon pink, golden tan and grayed green on a surround of golden tan. Gray blue mottled design border. Our large size wall hangings are mostly made from large furoshiki—a Japanese printed cloth that was widely used in the past to bundle and carry items. They are machine quilted, hand-guided, using just the right thickness of polyester batting to provide added depth and dimension to these specially selected panels. Sizes listed are approximate. For the width, the panel size itself is measured not the rod (which in the photo extends past the panel on each side)--and the length is measured from the top of the tabs to the bottom of the panel. Rod shown in photo is not included. History: The shrine is situated at the eastern end of Gion Machi in Kyoto and is commonly called "Gion-san". It is dedicated to the Shinto deities Susano-o-no-Mikoto and his consort Inadahime-no-Mikoto, together with their sons. The present buildings, with the exception of the older 2-story west gate (depicted in this wall hanging), were built in 1654 by the order of the shogun. Among the shrine's treasures are a pair of carved wooden komainu which are mythological 'lion-like' animals--called shi shi which are said to repel evil spirits. One is depicted here in the lower right corner. These sculptures are attributed to the renowned sculptor, Unkei. The shrine is the site of the Gion Festival and Okera Mairi--two of Kyoto's most noteworthy festivals.
